The old building, located at 200 W. Main St. in Sullivan, Missouri, was built in 1919, and was the first new building totally built for the use of The Bank of Sullivan. The bank prospered and in 1960 moved to another new bank down the street. Meanwhile the old bank building was put to use, as an appliance store, and also including a drug store. Time took its toll and by the time Meramec Community Mission took ownership for a pantry, it needed lots of repairs and replacements. That was 1995 and as of today the repairs and replacements are still ongoing. In the spring of 2021, it was determined that the brickwork needed attention, and so, tuck-pointing was performed and gave the old building a new, better, safer, and cleaner look. But that also highlighted the old boarded up windows and a closer look showed them to need total replacement. Instead of glass, we chose murals to do the job; a warmer and colorful replacement. It is the hope of The Meramec Community Mission, that these Murals will add to the downtown area and be enjoyed by the residents, as well as the others who travel 66 “The Mother Road”. Windows of Sullivan is affiliated with Meramec Community Mission only through the building and as such no funds are used that are connected in any way for purchase of food.
All funding for the Windows of Sullivan project was through sponsors and donations.
“You cannot keep food unless you have a place to keep it”. Unknown.
This is what the murals look like during the day
